Coach U15 AAA and U16 AAA
Coach Mitchell grew up in Detroit, MI playing AAA hockey for Little Caesars and Compuware. As a 15 year old, he played in the North American Hockey League for the Detroit Junior Wings and went on to play two years of Junior A hockey with the Waterloo Blackhawks of the United States Hockey League. His time in Junior hockey earned him a scholarship to Kent State University where he played in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association until the university dropped their hockey team. At that point, Coach Mitchell transferred to Ferris State University where he completed his college hockey career within the CCHA. He began his youth hockey coaching career while he was still playing in Juniors and in college through his work with Suburban Hockey Schools. Since then, he has coached a variety of youth teams in Michigan and the Wayne Wheels Junior B team, but has spent the last several years developing 2001 and 2002 elite teams in the Southwest Ohio area. In addition to coaching teams, Coach Mitchell coaches Selects Player Development Camps in the Dayton area.
Coach U16 AAA
Coach Casselman played four years of Division I hockey for Clarkson University in the Eastern College Athletic Conference. As a left wing, he earned 119 points in 129 games over the course of his college career. In the first round of the 1990 National Hockey League supplemental draft, the Detroit Red Wings picked up Coach Casselman to begin his career in professional hockey. He spent the next 12 ½ years playing in the American Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League, International Hockey League, Germany’s top-tier Deutsche Eishockey Liga, and the NHL, earning a professional career total of 749 points in 849 games.
Coach U16 AAA
Coach Latvala played 14 years of youth and junior hockey through the Copper Country Junior Hockey Association in Hancock, MI, playing primarily against competition from northern Ontario, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Throughout his almost 20 years in coaching, Coach Latvala has coached approximately 1100 games, mostly in the AA & AAA levels from mites through midgets. Many of his former players have moved on to Junior A, Division I college, and have been drafted by NHL teams. Coach Latvala’s accomplishments include State finalist in 2004, 2005, 2014, and 2016; 2005 North American International Silver Stick Champion (Newmarket, ON) for 1993 birth year team; and numerous league and tournament championships.
